SBI Graduate Fellowships

The Subsurface Biosphere Initiative will support 10 to 15 graduate fellowships of $5000 each for students entering OSU in the fall 2009. The fellowship can be used throughout the 2009-2010 academic year. The program’s intent is to help attract highly qualified graduate students interested in subsurface biosphere research by augmenting financial offers such as teaching assistantships and graduate research assistantships from departments and colleges.

Nominations for fellowships received prior to March 15, 2009, will be given first priority; offers may be made before February 15 to exceptional students.

The nomination should include a PDF of the student’s completed graduate school application and a short letter of support from a faculty member or department head. This letter should include the following:  1) the financial commitment that is being made by the department or college to the student, and 2) how the student's future research will relate to the subsurface biosphere.
